Novak Djokovic, Rafa Nadal, and Roger Federer have been the most dominant players over the last 15 years, but as time goes by, a new generation will have to take over to keep making history in tennis.

With Federer’s retirement and Nadal’s recurrent injury issues, Djokovic shared his thoughts on the new generation that, at some point, will take the reigns of the sport and dictate the pace on the tennis courts.

Nole, who didn’t play a competitive match since his semifinal loss in Dubai to Daniil Medvedev, made a successful debut in Monte Carlo against Ivan Gakhov, although he was held to a tie-breaker in the first set (7-6, 6-2).

Djokovic’s next ‘Big Three’

The 22-major winner praised the current US Open champion and tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz.

It’s amazing for our sport to have a champion like him”, he said.

The Australian Open and Wimbledon champion also spoke about two other players that, together with Alcaraz, will be competing for the Grand Slam titles soon:

“It’s also refreshing to have another great rivalry that excites people, the one between Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. We have seen exciting matches between them at Indian Wells and Miami. I’m sure these two guys, as well as Holger Rune, will be the leaders. They might be the next ‘Big Three’”.

In any case, whether it’s Alcaraz, Sinner, and Rune or other players, it will be a real challenge for the new starts to be as successful as the original ‘Big Three’: Djokovic, Nadal, and Federer have won 60 of the last 74 Grand Slam tournaments, and the list of achievements could go on.
