Federer and Schwartzman play ping pong

There’s a reason it’s called table tennis. Even in the middle of a gala, Federer and Schwartzman couldn’t resist a game.

This weekend starts tennis legend Roger Federer’s last tournament as a professional player as he teams up with long-term rival Rafael Nadal to lead Team Europe in the Laver Cup.

The pair will play the doubles match against Team World’s Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock.

Ahead of the tournament, the Laver Cup hosted a fancy gala on Thursday evening, in which the players wore tuxedos and…played ping pong?

Federer posted this video to social media with the caption, “just a quick warmup before the gala”. In the video, Federer is playing ping pong against Team World’s Diego Schwartzman.

The Laver Cup will be Federer’s last competition, as he recently announced his retirement following a long road of injuries and operations on his knee.

The 41-year-old will play a surely emotional farewell game after winning 20 Grand Slam titles, 103 tournament titles, and after being the world’s No. 1 for several years.

“Sitting here, it feels good that I go first from the guys,” said Federer as he sat alongside fellow tennis greats Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray. “It feels right.”
