Federer arrives in London for his last tournament

Twenty-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer has landed in London to play the last tournament of his career before he retires.

Update:

Roger Federer, twenty-time Grand Slam champion, announced his retirement from professional competitive tennis after 24 years and said that the Laver Cup would be his last ATP tournament as a professional player. He arrived in London on Sunday for that competition.

The Swiss tennis legend is expected to have a practice session on Thursday with Team Europe before the event begins on Friday. In the tournament, Federer will play alongside Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Casper Ruud, and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Federer’s retirement announcement comes after several years dealing with a persistent knee injury. He has only played in six tournaments since 2020 and has had three different surgeries to try to help with the pain and continue playing, but he has never fully recovered from the injury. The last time he played was in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon in 2021, when he lost to Hubert Hurkacz.

This will be Federer’s first Laver Cup since he beat John Isner three years ago. Federer now plans to make the Laver Cup his final tournament and to go out on a high note. He has said he will participate in the doubles, but not the singles, which means his last match will be on Friday. It’s been suggested that he will partner with Rafa Nadal in the doubles.
