Former employee of Augusta National stole millions. What do we know?
The Masters at Augusta is undoubtedly the most prestigious tournament in the golf world, which is probably why a former employee saw fit to steal from it.
While it sounds hard to believe, a former employee of Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia is now set to plead guilty in federal court to charges of not only stealing millions of dollars worth of merchandise and memorabilia from the Masters tournament but transporting it as well.
Former Augusta National employee robbed millions
If you’ve seen the reports, then you will know that Richard Globensky has been accused of transporting stolen goods across state lines to Tampa, Florida, between 2009 and 2022. What you will also be aware of is that said goods were secured from a rather interesting place and that Globensky, “knowing the same had been stolen, converted and taken by fraud,” made moves to profit off of them. That of course was confirmed by a document filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
What we now understand is that Globensky, a former warehouse coordinator at Augusta National, was responsible for the management of a wide array of Masters merchandise and memorabilia that was sold annually. To be clear, records show that Globensky is now employed as a mortgage broker. Indeed, his online profile for the finance company that he apparently owns, shows his first name as “Brendan”, before stating that he has spent the last 14 years at the prestigious golf club “mastering the art of hard work, customer service, and cultivating relationships.”

The bio then goes on to paint a positive picture of ‘Brendan, explaining that “much like a small town, Brendan creates an authentic atmosphere where people feel welcome and comfortable. ...He strives to exceed expectations at every opportunity given. During his time away from the office Brendan enjoys traveling with his family, golfing, and watching the game.” Clearly, that’s all up for interpretation but what we know as fact is that Globensky and his wife sold their home - an extravagant residence - in nearby Evans, Georgia, for just north of $2 million in 2023, approximately a year after the allegations surfaced. It remains unclear what comes next, but rest assured there is more to this story. As for the Masters at Augusta, the 88th edition was won for the second time in three years by current world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.
