Fury reveals his boxing plans before hanging up the gloves
His fight against Usyk in February was delayed due to an eye cut but he’s already looking ahead to the new fight date.
Tyson Fury has been in the spotlight recently, and probably not the reasons he would expect. The Gipsy King was rumored to be thinking about retirement after suffering a cut eye that made the Oleksandr Usyk fight be postponed to May 18.
However, Fury has denied such rumors and has stated that he’s far from retirement, adding that he has a five-fight plan before hanging up the gloves.
The Brit was originally expected to fight Oleksandr Usyk in the heavyweight division’s first four-belt unification on February 17 in Saudi Arabia.
The undefeated fighter has expressed that retirement is still far away from happening and added that his main goal right now is to try to recover from his eye cut and come back to the boxing ring to face The Cat.
Tyson Fury’s five-fight plan
Despite many boxing fans criticizing him after the fight was postponed and doubting the Manchester native could be more interested in avoiding Usyk and retiring, the 35-year-old boxer said that he has no intentions of quitting.
“I’m hearing talk of people saying that I should retire or I’m going to retire soon, or whatever. I ain’t retiring anywhere”, he said on Instagram.
“I ain’t retiring, I’ve got two fights with Usyk for the undisputed, twice”, he added.
After that, Fury revealed that after his two fights with the undefeated Ukrainian, he plans on taking on his fellow countryman Anthony Joshua, not once, but maybe twice. And he also included the possibility of getting into the ring with MMA heavyweight star Francis Ngannou again.
“Then I’m going to fight AJ [Joshua] at least once, maybe twice, if there’s a rematch – if he wants one after the first battering I give him”.
“Then I’m going to fight [Francis] Ngannou again. And that’s just the start. So there are five little fights for you to whet your appetite with. I ain’t going nowhere. Nowhere. I’m 35 years old and in the prime of my life”, he stated.
Although Usyk was very close to losing to Ngannou in October, he believes he will be at his best when he faces Usyk for all the marbles. Moneywise, even if he lost to the Ukrainian twice, a showdown against Joshua would probably do big numbers, and that could also mean that his days outside boxing are still far away.
