Gaethje on McGregor: “I’m not gonna fight someone on steroids”

Justin Gaethje lit up the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, knocking out Dustin Poirier with a spectacular high kick. He avenged his previous loss to Poirier in the main event of UFC 291 and claimed the BMF (Bad Mother Fucker) belt, previously held only by Jorge Masvidal.

Poirier congratulated Gaethje with great sportsmanship and camaraderie, stating that he deserved it for his hard work. However, someone couldn’t get over Gaethje’s win.

McGregor has to be the protagonist

Conor McGregor, of course, wasted no time in claiming the BMF title, asserting that he was the true Bad Mother Fucker of the UFC.

During the post-fight press conference, Gaethje responded to McGregor’s statement saying that he was not interested in facing the Irishman. “I think he has turned me down six times. Usually, you have to lose to fight him, so I’m not sure what’s going on. I fight in MMA. I like big fights, exciting things,” the 34-year-old American shared.

Gaethje also accused McGregor of using banned substances, “I’m not gonna fight someone on steroids. I’ve never taken steroids in my life, and I never will. Well, maybe when I retire,” stated the American in the post-event press conference.

McGregor was planning to return to the UFC in December to face Michael Chandler. Both are coaches in The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), and it is customary for them to face off in the octagon after the reality show. However, McGregor has not yet resolved the issues he had with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).

They reported being in negotiations for his return, but the former champion failed to meet the set dates. He did not comply with the testing terms and would not meet the agreed-upon deadlines.

Gaethje also added that he “probably shouldn’t even say that if I want to fight, but it’s the truth. We’ll see. The UFC is making the decisions, so we’ll see what happens.”
