George Kambosos thinks Canelo will beat Charlo
The former unified lightweight champion believes that the Mexican will come out on top against Jermall Charlo when they meet in the ring in September.
One of the most recognizable faces in boxing, Canelo Álvarez, will be back in the ring soon. The 32-year-old boxer is known for his dedication to the sport but also for being quite active and fighting as often as possible if he’s fit.
The undisputed super middleweight champion didn’t convince in his last bout against an inferior John Ryder, but the Brit managed to give the Guadalajara native a tough fight that went all 12 rounds.
Despite some people saying he’s on the decline, Canelo remains confident and believes there’s still a lot left in the tank.
Some days ago, the Mexican signed a three-fight deal with Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions for more than $100 million, being Jermall Charlo the first challenge for Álvarez.
Canelo will be too much for the inactive Charlo
According to the Australian boxer George Kambosos Jr., the Canelo-Charlo clash will be a good and entertaining one, with Eddy Reynoso’s pupil ultimately getting the win.
“I think [Jermall] Charlo is a great fighter, but the inactivity is too much, and I think inactivity is sometimes good for a fighter”, said Kambosos to Fight Hub TV.
Kambosos, who lost twice to Devin Haney, believes that Jermall’s two-tear inactivity will be the differential factor when he faces Canelo:
“I’ve had a little bit more time since my last fight in October, but for his stance where he’s at, that two years is going to be a big factor”.
“Canelo has been fighting. Look, Canelo didn’t look amazing against [John] Ryder, but again, Ryder is a tough guy too. So, I think Canelo gets the job done [against Charlo]. Again, an exciting fight. It’ll be interesting, but I think Canelo will get it done”, he concluded.
Saúl’s Plan A was to get the rematch against Dmitry Bivol at 175 lbs, the same category where he got outpointed by the undefeated fighter in May 2022.
However, Bivol was only interested in facing the Mexican if the bout was made at 168 lbs, for all the belts at super middleweight, something that Álvarez wasn’t interested in.
