Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson ‘fight’ on social media again
The two undefeated American fighters have gone back and forth on social media, paving the way for a potential super fight.
The Terence Crawford-Errol Spence Jr. super fight probably was the bout that fans wanted to see the most this year, but it looks like the collision between the two undefeated welterweights won’t happen, at least not for now.
Meanwhile, the spotlight has been on another of the most talented fighters in the sport, Gervonta Davis.
Tank hasn’t tasted defeat either so far and has become one of the most entertaining fighters to watch, as he combines devastating power with high boxing IQ.
After his TKO win over Héctor Luis García, Davis is expected to fight rising star Ryan Garcia in April in a very anticipated bout.
But if the fight between Davis and KingRy is one of those bouts that has all the ingredients to be remembered throughout the years, there’s a potential one that would probably raise even more expectations.
Davis vs Stevenson: a fight in the making?
Gervonta Davis 28-0 (26 KOs) and Shakur Stevenson 19-0 (9 KOs), for many fans the two best young fighters today, could be starting an enmity that could lead to a mega bout in the future.
The two fighters, who could face each other in the lower weights for supremacy after attacking each other on social media as of late, fired more shots at each other last weekend.
“I ain’t gonna take away credit from the dude. I think that [Gervonta Davis] is a helluva fighter. I mean, look at him. He’s fighting pay-per-view, knocking these dudes out. That doesn’t take away the fact that I can beat this dude. This dude knows he can’t beat me”, Stevenson wrote.
Davis, who had recently been arrested on domestic violence charge, didn’t hesitate to shoot back.
“Why is [Shakur Stevenson] talking like he’s the best? He didn’t even fight at 135 yet. He didn’t even have power at 126 or 130 or none of that. All that stuff is okay. How can you stop people that can hit? No matter all that boxing, you’re going to get hit. Whatcha gonna do when you get hit”, he answered.
In case both fighters met, it wouldn’t be this year, as they still have opponents to take care of, but they are young, the rivalry has already been set on social media, and they are both willing to face each other, so a super fight could well be on the making here.
