Gervonta Davis vs Frank Martin: weight, height, records, KO’s and statistics
‘Tank’ returns to the ring after a long layoff to take on the undefeated and skilled Detroit native in an interesting matchup.
One of the most charismatic and talented fighters in boxing today, Gervonta Davis, will return to the ring to take on the dangerous Frank Martin this weekend in Las Vegas.
Tank will defend his WBA lightweight title in a fight some experts believe ‘The Ghost’ has a good shot at pulling off the upset. However, oddsmakers have the Baltimore native as a big favorite, which isn’t surprising.
Davis is one of the most followed boxers, considered one of the cash cows of the sport, alongside Canelo Alvarez. The former Floyd Mayweather protege served 44 days at a detention center in Baltimore last year after a judge ruled he violated the terms of his house arrest last June.
Before that, Davis had taken on rising star Ryan Garcia in a much-anticipated bout. The 29-year-old won the fight by knockout after KingRy couldn’t stand up after being given the 10 count by the referee in the seventh round due to a Davis’ punch to the liver.
Meanwhile, Martin will have the chance of a lifetime on Saturday night. The 2016 Golden Gloves winner is a talented fighter looking to record the biggest win of his career.
The Detroit-bred contender is an all-around boxer in his prime and has a good boxing IQ. Although he isn’t known to have deadly power, he has good footwork and movement, he’s smart inside the ring and can throw solid combinations.
Davis & Martin records and stats
The undefeated Gervonta (29-0, 27 KOs) is one of the most feared fighters in boxing. He possesses a very high knockout ratio, with 27 knockouts out of his 29 victories.
However, he’s not aggressive from the very start, he prefers studying his opponent and his flaws before unleashing his full arsenal. Moreover, his power shots are combined with clinical precision, and he is a good counterpuncher, as he proved against Leo Santa Cruz in 2020, one of the most impressive knockout wins in recent years.
It will be an interesting fight, as Martin (18-0, 12 KOs) is also undefeated, which means someone’s 0 has got to go.
Although The Ghost isn’t particularly known for his power, he has 12 KO wins out of the 18 victories he has recorded so far. His last fight was a unanimous decision win over Artem Harutyunyan last July in a clash held in Vegas last July.
