Gilbert Arenas says Jake Paul doesn’t stand a chance against Mike Tyson

The former NBA player believes that despite his age, ‘Iron Mike’ still has enough power to put Paul into real trouble.

The former NBA player believes that despite his age, ‘Iron Mike’ still has enough power to put Paul into real trouble.

Jake Paul aims to continue his boxing career in style, recording more victories for his resume, and making some impact on the boxing and social media audience.

Although he has been winning all of his fights, except for the Tommy Fury bout, he isn’t still having the recognition he probably expected, as he has been facing low-quality opposition in most of his fights but his next fight has undoubtedly called everybody’s attention.

After defeating Ryan Bourland in the first round last weekend, the social media celebrity and boxer announced Wednesday he will take on the boxing living legend Mike Tyson next. The younger of the Paul brothers will step into the ring against the 57-year-old Tyson on July 20th, at the Dallas Cowboys’ stadium.

The fight, which has attracted the attention of the whole boxing community, will be streamed live on Netflix.

Arenas: “An accidental right hook or something, and you’re dead”

Since the fight was announced, fans and experts have started sharing their predictions on the potential outcome of the clash.

Jake Paul is a clear favorite to record another victory, as oddsmakers believe that the 30-year age gap between both men will be crucial when they meet in the ring.

However, not everyone thinks that the Cleveland native will record his fourth consecutive win. Former Washington Wizards guard and All-Star player Gilbert Arenas believes that the outcome of the fight will be very different from the one Paul has in mind.

“Let’s just think about it,” Arenas explained on Gil’s Arena show.

“He (Tyson) is a professional fighter with probably the most power we have seen in boxing itself. Just an accidental right hook or something, you are dead. You’re not built for these types of hits, so if you even last, we already know it’s scripted”, he said.

Arenas also talked about the Mike Tyson-Roy Jones Jr. clash in November 2020. Both fighters gave a very decent fight, with the fight being ruled a draw after eight rounds. He stated that the reason why Tyson didn’t knock Jones Jr. out was because it was previously stipulated by contract that the former heavyweight king couldn’t punch Jones at full strength:

It was like 10 million dollars, you can’t knock me out, you can’t punch through me right. So you know Mike Tyson, he’s trying to punch to the back of your head so basically, every time he punched at the face, he got to stop his punch, he can’t knock him out. So that’s why there was no winner because there were rules in play that Mike Tyson can’t punch.”

Arenas also said that besides the power that Tyson still possesses, the fact that Paul has had little opposition in his fights will also come into play when both boxers meet in Dallas in the summer.
