Update:

Gervonta Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) has long been one of boxing’s brightest stars - but his career continues to be overshadowed by a string of troubling incidents outside the ring. The latest: another arrest for alleged domestic violence just weeks ago, involving the mother of his child. Coupled with his first non-win - a draw against Lamont Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) - rumors are swirling that “Tank” may be considering retirement, according to a prominent boxing insider.

“From several very reliable sources, Baltimore’s finest Tank Davis is retiring, won’t fight again is what he’s telling those close to him,” wrote American boxing expert Rick Glaser on X. “Tank’s supposedly fed up with boxing. Tank’s retired till his money runs low.” Davis was expected to face Roach again this summer, but no official announcement has been made.

A troubled past that lingers

Davis has had frequent run-ins with the law. Raised in the violence-plagued streets of Baltimore, he’s struggled to leave that world behind. On Father’s Day - June 21 - he was arrested for allegedly slapping and striking the mother of his children during a heated argument.

The altercation reportedly left her with a visible cut, and her own mother, who witnessed the incident, told law enforcement her daughter was visibly distressed and crying, per a police report cited by local media. She also provided video evidence showing Davis throwing a small box at her.

This isn’t an isolated case. Davis previously faced domestic violence charges in 2020 and 2022, both of which were later dropped. In 2023, he was arrested and convicted in a hit-and-run case dating back three years. He was sentenced to house arrest but failed to comply, ultimately serving 44 days in jail.

Winning run ends in draw that felt like a loss

In March, Davis experienced his first setback inside the ring. Until then, he had won every fight, finishing all but two before the final bell. But Roach halted that streak, earning a draw in a bout where Davis looked far from his best. Many fans felt the decision was generous and that Davis may have deserved a loss.

A rematch seemed inevitable - but so far, there’s been no word, and “Tank” has remained silent about his future.
