The WBC president, Mauricio Sulaiman, showed his support to ‘King Ryan’ after the boxer tested positive for Ostarine.

The WBC president, Mauricio Sulaiman, showed his support to ‘King Ryan’ after the boxer tested positive for Ostarine.

After the one-year suspension punishment for the controversial boxer Ryan García became official after he tested positive for Ostarine, he was widely criticized. He even said he was “retiring” from the sport before being sanctioned.

They took my victory away. It’s okay I’m retired I’ll come back in a year. I never cheated”, he said on social media.

Besides the one-year suspension, he lost 1.2 million dollars of his fight purse against Devin Haney, a clash he won. However, after the suspension it was revealed the fight was declared a ‘no-contest’ and Haney kept his undefeated record, as Ostarine is alleged to be a performance-enhancing drug.

Haney shows his frustration after the WBC supported Garcia

However, the WBC president, Mauricio Sulaiman, showed his support to Ryan García for what happened.

“Many are asking how will the WBC punish Ryan Garcia. We don’t care to punish him. We want to help Ryan, the human being, he is suffering, and going through difficulties. This is not a matter of boxing, Ryan needs immediate support and attention NOW. Champ we are here for you”, Sulaiman said.

Devin Haney didn’t hold back, immediately reacting to Sulaiman’s comments.

“WBC called a purse bid while I was going through damages of being cheated… This is pathetic!”, the San Francisco native stated on his socials.

After that, Sulaiman had some supportive words for him too on social media.

“Devin has earned my highest esteem and respect. He showed his professionalism, heart of a warrior, and determination (...). Devin faced an opponent who did not make weight and had a dramatic weight and size advantage at fight time. Devin was knocked down and battered and he fought back like the champion he is only to find days later that Ryan Garcia failed anti-doping tests to PEDs. Devin Haney is the current WBC Superlightweight Champion, is the pride of the WBC (...)”.
