Haney’s father threatens Ryan García: “If he dies, he dies”
Devin Haney will put his WBC super lightweight belt on the line on Saturday against Ryan García in Brooklyn.
The week before the fight between Devin Haney (31-0-0, 15 KO) and Ryan García (24-1-0, 20 KO) for The Dream’s WBC super lightweight is being truly crazy. In their face-off, the champion pushed and slapped the boxer of Mexican descent. Devin’s father, Bill, said he had signed his death warrant. “As Drago said in Rocky: If he dies, he dies,” he told DAZN Boxing.
“He disrespected boxing and he disrespected people. He disrespected the sport, and if he dies, he dies, just like Drago said. This isn’t a game. I’m sending my son to go kill him”, Bill Haney said after the intense face-off between his son and Ryan. Haney and KingRy shared the ring on six occasions in the amateurs, with each winning three fights. Despite having fought a few times, they have a tense relationship.
Haney doesn’t care about Garcia’s supposed mental issues
Garcia’s possible mental health issues only make the situation worse. “I don’t care what nobody says about him. If you don’t want to watch it, and you don’t want to see it, then don’t watch it. It was a suicide for him to sign up [to fight] and it’s going to be a homicide on April 20th, because of all the disrespect,” he added.
Garcia worried boxing fans on social media, ‘getting engaged’ with a different Only Fans model every hour, saying someone wanted to see him in jail or that he lost access to his credit cards. Moreover, he accused Haney’s father of being a pimp. “I’m sending him to go kill him. You disrespect the country; you disrespect the people; you disrespect a religion – you will be sentenced, and I’m sending my son to go kill him”, Bill Haney concluded.
The meeting between the two fighters at the Empire State was one to remember. García showed up with his parents and his trainer Derrick James. “It’s going to be an annihilation. It’s not going to be a beating, it’s going to be an annihilation. Like [Ivan] Drago said in Rocky, if he dies, he dies’”, Bill predicted about a fight that comes with a new anecdote almost every day.
