How did Scott Stallings’ official invitation to the 2023 Masters at Augusta get sent to the wrong Scott Stallings?
Following some impressive recent showings on tour, you’d think people would know who he is, but apparently even the folks at the Masters in Augusta got mixed up with which Scott Stallings to invite.
Imagine you’re a professional golfer and you’ve actually managed to consistently improve over the years, until finally you qualify for The Masters at Augusta - arguably golf’s most prestigious tournament. Amazing right? Now imagine they send your official invitation to the wrong person. No, we’re not making this up.
A case of mistaken identity: The other Scott Stallings
While it may sound like the start of an Adam Sandler-esque golf parody, which goes on to result in a protagonist who has never held a club winning a major tournament, we can confirm that the Masters at Augusta provided us with a rather hilarious case of mistaken identity. According to reports, three-time PGA Tour winner Scott Stallings saw his official invitation to golf’s top tier tournament sent to the wrong person, albeit someone also named Scott Stallings. Needless to say, both Scotts must have been very surprised if not amused. Interestingly, both Scotts have wives who are named Jennifer. Again we’re not making this up. Luckily, non-PGA-playing Scott seemed ‘more than happy’ to fix the problem.
How did Scott Stallings the golfer do in 2022?
Regarding Stalling’s path to the Masters, it’s worth noting that while he’s not won a tournament since 2014, he did finish as runner-up in the recent BMW Championship in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. In addition to that impressive showing, Stallings also posted a career-high seven top-10 finishes, which in turn saw him earn a not-so-small $3,933,593 in total for the season. His top 30 finish in the aforementioned FedEx Cup is of course what qualified him for the 2023 Masters, but as we just established, he may now have to watch another Scott take his place.
Given his T-27 finish on his Masters debut back in 2012 and a failure to make the cut, on the only other occasion that he made an appearance in 2014, we’re willing to bet he might feel a bit peeved by not being able to have another go. Jokes aside, the Masters at Augusta starts on the April 6th, 2023, which means there is plenty of time for the organization to address its mailing issues and for Stallings to get himself in order. We hope!
