Tiger Woods made his first appearance at the PGA Championship in 1997, at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York, and ended in a tie for 29th place after a final round 75. Despite the underwhelming result obtained by Woods, who was 21 years of age at the time, the tournament was marked by some spectacular play from other golfers, including that year’s champion Davis Love III. For Love, this victory marked a major milestone in his career, as it was his first and only major championship win.

1999

In 1999, Tiger Woods won his first PGA Championship when just 23 years old, showcasing his impressive golfing skills. The competition was played at the Medinah Country Club in Illinois, where Woods narrowly defeated main rival Spaniard, Sergio García, who was only 19 then, by a single stroke. This triumph was a significant accomplishment for Woods, marking his second Major victory and an important milestone for any golfer.

2000

Over the next few years, Woods became a dominant force in the PGA Championship, earning a succession of impressive triumphs. In 2000, he secured his second consecutive PGA Championship win and fifth major title by defeating Bob May in a challenging three-hole playoff. Both golfers finished with an impressive score of 18 under par, setting a new record for the PGA Championship that Woods would later match in 2006.

2006

In 2006, Woods returned to Medinah Country Club and claimed his third PGA Championship victory. He held a substantial lead of five strokes over his closest rival, Shaun Micheel, who had previously won the tournament in 2003. This triumph marked Woods’ twelfth major title, solidifying his position in golfing history as one of the sport’s greatest players.

2007

In 2007, the PGA Championship welcomed back Woods as the defending champion, and he certainly lived up to expectations. He secured his fourth PGA Championship and thirteenth major title, finishing two strokes ahead of Woody Austin. The tournament happened at the Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and again highlighted Woods’ remarkable skills and talent on the course.

Tiger Woods has cemented his name in golf’s history books with four PGA Championship titles and thirteen major victories. His success has served and still serves as an inspiration to fans and aspiring golfers worldwide and despite recent setbacks, the 48-year-old is still battling the best.
