How many total putts will there be at the Masters in 2025? Here’s what we know and our estimate
They say “drive for show, putt for dough” and that’s what it might come down to if you tie in points with other participants of fantasy golf on the Masters app.

If you’re playing fantasy golf on the Masters app, you’ll have to do some calculating to answer the tiebreaker question:
How many total putts will be recorded by the field for the entire tournament?
It’s a tough one, because it depends on so many different factors, like weather, speed of greens, etc. We all know that greens are lightning fast at Augusta National, but that adds another factor into the equation because how many times do players have to go up and down when not making a green in regulation? Anyhow, let’s look at the data.
This year there are 96 players in the field. So, we can assume on Thursday and Friday 96 players will play 36 holes: 96 x 36 = 3,456. Now the tough part. How many putts on each hole? Last year Scottie Scheffler had 114 putts in the four days of his Masters victory. That comes out to 1.58 putts per hole. That is very close to the PGA Tour average of 1.59. Let’s round it up to an easy 1.6, just because.
The worst missed putt in Masters history has to belong to Scott Hoch.

He missed a 24 inch putt that would have won him the Masters in 1989 against Nick Faldo on the 1st playoff hole. Faldo would go onto win on the 2nd. pic.twitter.com/wUM2CHKDMg
Now we have our Thursday and Friday total: 1.6 putts per hole multiplied by 3,456 holes (36 holes played by 96 players) = 5530 putts approx.
We’ve made it to the weekend, the cut allows for 50 players and ties. Last year 60 players made the cut. Previous years were 52, 53, 54, which comes out to an average of 55 if we round up, so let’s do that.
Now we have 55 players playing on Saturday and Sunday, so 110 players x 36 holes = 3960 putts over the weekend.
Phil JUST missed this long eagle putt on the eighth. 👀

How many putts will be made at the 2025 Masters at Augusta National?
Our (far from scientific) estimate comes out to 5530 putts on Thursday and Friday and 3960 on Saturday and Sunday. That comes out to a grand total of 9,490.

That might be a lot considering how much players need to scramble at Augusta National: Last year the total came out to 8,798. FYI, for my Masters fantasy golf app question I used 9,000 for the tiebreaker. Feel free to make any alterations to that “formula,” which didn’t factor in WDs or any other event that could alter how many putts players will need at the 2025 Masters. Good luck!
