The second major of the men’s golf season takes place in Kentucky this week, as Valhalla Golf Club hosts the 2024 PGA Championship. This will be the fourth time that the tournament has been held at the Louisville course, and the first since 2014.

Brooks Koepka is the defending champion, having won the title for the third time in his career in 2023. The 34-year-old finished two strokes clear at Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford, New York, with Norway’s Viktor Hovland and fellow American Scottie Scheffler tied for second place. Koepka is one of 16 LIV Golf players who will be in the field at the 2024 PGA Championship.

When is the 2024 PGA Championship?

The 106th edition of the tournament, this year’s PGA Championship is scheduled to run from Thursday 16 May to Sunday 19 May 2024. Practice rounds at Valhalla began on Monday 13 May.

Will Scottie Scheffler be at the 2024 PGA Championship?

Scheffler, who won his second career Masters in mid-April, will be making his return to action at this week’s major. The world No. 1 hasn’t played since taking victory at the RBC Heritage three weeks ago; he took time off from competing as his wife, Meredith, was heavily pregnant with the couple’s first child. The 27-year-old has now confirmed that Meredith gave birth to a son, Bennett, on Wednesday 8 May.

Scheffler arrived at Valhalla on Monday, telling NBC’s Todd Lewis: “It was fairly challenging leaving the house this morning, but I’m here, I’m committed to playing this week and I’m excited to be out here competing. I told my little man when I was leaving, ‘I don’t want to leave, but I’ve got to leave.’”

Who are the favourites to win the 2024 PGA Championship?

According to betting info collected by Oddschecker, Scheffler is the favourite for victory in Kentucky. He is most frequently priced at 9/2 to win the major for the first time.

Rory McIlroy, who is currently world No. 2, is second in the betting; the Northern Irishman is most commonly valued at 15/2. He’s followed by Koepka, with bookmakers rating his prospects of a second straight PGA Championship crown at 16/1.
