The Black Desert Resort is enraptured as the PGA Tour returns to Utah for the first time in six decades. This event marks an important moment for the resort and golf enthusiasts in the Ivins, Utah, area.

Several players already expressed their high morale for the tournament, eager to take on the new course and compete in such a picturesque setting. The Black Desert Resort, a sprawling property nestled in the natural beauty of southern Utah, has been a project two decades in the making. Resort managing partner Patrick Manning discussed the journey, which began in 2004 when he first visited the land with his wife. Overwhelmed by a sense of belonging, Manning envisioned turning the untouched property into a premier golfing destination.

All of this, the greens, the buildings, the excitement—it’s been 20 years in the making,” Manning said. “When I first stood on this land, I knew I was meant to be here. It’s amazing to see it all come to life.

Manning shared that bringing the PGA Tour to the Black Desert Resort was a dream come true, and he wasted no time convincing the tour officials to visit. After walking the course with Steve Wenzloff, a key PGA Tour course design figure, Manning knew the resort was destined for national attention. “Wenzloff told me that while there are spectacular courses on the tour, nothing will look as incredible on national television as this course in this setting,” he recalled.

The tournament, featuring a $7.5 million purse, kicks off tomorrow. 132 players will compete for the top prize of $1.035 million. Local talent, including Mike Weir and Jay Don Blake, will compete alongside some of the best international pros.

The course is part of a mega-resort complex that is still under construction. The project covers 630 acres and will eventually include several thousand rooms, condos, and numerous retail, restaurant, and entertainment spaces. Additionally, there will be a convention center and spa. While construction is ongoing, visitors can stay at the nearby Red Mountain Resort.

Black Desert offers an all-inclusive greens fee of $250 for non-resort guests. This fee covers golf, as well as food and beverage for the round, with the exception of alcohol.

The focus at Black Desert is on delivering a luxurious, member-like experience. Tee times are scheduled with generous 15-minute intervals between them, providing ample time to enjoy the beautifully designed practice range, located adjacent to a 36-hole putting course.
