Jannik Sinner (23) celebrated his birthday on Monday and lifted his third ATP Masters trophy as the world number one, beating the highest-ranked American player, Frances Tiafoe (26), 7-6(4), 6-2, to win the Cincinnati Open.

The reigning Italian top seed showcased his exceptional form as he prepared for the upcoming US Open. He displayed patience in a hard-fought first set before seizing control of the match in the second set. Despite Tiafoe’s initial strong performance, his game waned following the first-set tiebreaker, but he still made a lasting impression.

Following a powerful display, the American phenom, now ascending into the top 20 rankings, valiantly saved three match points, but ultimately, Sinner clinched his 15th career title. Cincinnati now stands as the coveted fifth trophy of 2024 for the Italian maestro, who commenced the season with a victory at the Australian Open in Melbourne.

Sinner heads into the August 26 start of the US Open as a major favorite, leading by over 2,000 points over world number two Novak Djokovic.
