Teófimo López could be in line for a payout of up to $5 million this weekend, as the boxer seeks to successfully defend his WBO light welterweight title for a second time.

López, who has been light welterweight champion since defeating Josh Taylor by unanimous decision a year ago, faces Canadian Steve Claggett at Miami Beach’s James L. Knight Center today. The clash comes nearly five months after the 26-year-old claimed a unanimous-decision victory over Jamaine Ortiz in his first title defence, at Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas.

How much is the López vs Claggett fight purse?

According to the specialist sport-finance website Sporty Salaries, López will pocket a guaranteed fee of $1.5 million for his fight with Claggett, with an extra $3.5 million up for grabs depending on television revenue. Claggett, meanwhile, is reported to be in line for a guaranteed $500,000, rising to a potential $1.5 million.
