Update:

Italian Jannik Sinner is the 2025 men’s Wimbledon champion, beating Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in four sets (4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4)

For his efforts, he takes home a winner’s check for £3,000,000, roughly $4,000,000. That’s the largest champion’s payday of any Grand Slam in 2025, with the next closest being the US Open, which will hand out $3.6 million to its singles winner this fall.

The French Open paid $2.8 million to winner Alcaraz, and Sinner collected $2.26 million for his victory over Alexander Zverev in the Australian Open final back in January.

Runner-up Alcaraz earns £1.5 million (about $2 million).

Prize money at all four Grand Slams has been equal for men and women since 2007, when Wimbledon became the last of the majors to adopt parity. Iga Swiatek picked up the winner’s check for winning the Wimbledon Women’s singles title yesterday.

What is the total prize pool at Wimbledon this year?

The total prize fund at Wimbledon 2025 is a record £53,500,000—around $72 million.

The total prize pot at Wimbledon in 1968, the first year of the Open Era, was £26,150, around $63,000. The men’s champion, Rod Laver, picked up $4,800 (£2,000) and the women’s winner, Billie Jean King, won $1,800 (£750).

What is the Wimbledon men’s trophy called?

While the women’s trophy at Wimbledon is known as the Venus Rosewater Dish, the men’s trophy is simply called the Gentlemen’s Singles Trophy. The original trophies were the Field Cup (1877-1883) and the Challenge Cup (1884-1886), both of which ended up in William Renshaw’s trophy cabinet as he got to keep them both after after twice winning the Gentlemen’s Single title three times in succession.

In 1887, Wimbledon bought the current trophy for 100 guineas (105 pounds sterling, worth around $510 back then, some $17,000 today). The club decided they didn’t want to have to pay for more trophies so changed the rules to say that the new trophy would never become the property of the winner.

The cup is made of silver gilt and stands 18 inches tall with a diameter of 7.5 inches. It bears the inscription ‘The All England Lawn Tennis Club Single Handed Championship of the World’.

The design is classic, with two handles. At the base of each are two heads with a winged helmet and flowers on the edges. The most characteristic feature is the pineapple that crowns the trophy. One theory for this fruity addition comes from the custom of the time. British sailors adorned the entrances of their houses with a pineapple to announce their return. The pineapple was also a symbol of welcome, hospitality and recognition. King Charles II of England also posed with this fruit in a portrait representing the privilege of the powerful.
