How much prize money did Matt Fitzpatrick win at the 2023 RBC Heritage?

Though it was just one week after the Masters, the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links in South Carolina put on a show. The massive purse didn’t hurt either.

The young Englishman put held off the American, Jordan Spieth, to clinch the title on Hilton Head Island and with a rather large pay-day. Spoils aside, the 28-year-old has cemented himself as one of the game’s bright talents not just for the future, but here and now.

Matt Fitzpatrick wins the 2023 RBC Heritage

To put it simply, the action was frantic at Hilton Head. Following the Masters at Augusta which turned out to be surprising to say the least - John Rahm had an impressive win - the RBC Heritage teed off not too far away. As a “designated event,” we were guaranteed to see some of golf’s biggest stars. Aside from Rory McIlroy of course who had better things to do. Naturally, with the aforementioned stars on show the purse was always going to be large. $20 million large to be precise, which was an $8 million increase from last year. With that, there was also a bump in the first-place prize sum as well: $1.44 million rose to $3.6 million. For perspective, that’s more than the above-mentioned Rahm received for claiming the Green Jacket.

This brings us to Matt Fitzpatrick, winner of the 2023 RBC Heritage and that not-so-small $3.6 million. Following stellar play throughout the day, Fitzpatrick defeated defending champion, Jordan Spieth, on the third hole of sudden death to cap off a fine performance, after an impressive showing at the Masters just days ago. The win marks his first since he won last year’s U.S. Open and quite frankly, it likely won’t be his last.
