Update:

Xander Schauffele has become a two-time major champion after winning the 2024 British Open at Royal Troon on Sunday. The 30-year-old Californian has won big for the second time this year after also triumphing in the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla in May.

Schauffele posted a final-round 65 in the west of Scotland to emerge victorious by two shots and claim the Claret Jug. At various different points on Sunday, third-round leader Billy Horschel, former US Open champion Justin Rose and 2019 Open winner Shane Lowry all looked as if they might come out on top, as did surprise package Thriston Lawrence.

Schauffele’s first prize at the 2024 British Open

Before the tournament began on Thursday, organisers the R&A announced there would be a record $17 million prize purse, up 3% from 2023. As a result of his victory, Schauffele takes home $3.1 million, $100,000 more than last year’s winner at Royal Liverpool, fellow American Brian Harman.
