How much prize money does the winner get at the 2024 3M Open?

Billy Horschel and Thriston Lawrence, who starred at the 2024 Open Championship, are in the field, which doesn’t contain Schauffele, Scheffler or McIlroy.

The 2024 3M Open takes place between Thursday July 25 and Sunday July 28 at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, near Minneapolis, with the tournament finding itself in a difficult spot in the schedule. The 2024 Open Championship only finished on Sunday, which has undoubtedly had an effect on this week’s field.

Why aren’t Schauffele, Scheffler and McIlory playing in the 3M Open?

The PGA Tour’s biggest stars all took part in the final major of the year, which was played at Royal Troon in Scotland and was only completed four days ago. It’s therefore a perfectly logical time for new Open champion Xander Schauffele, world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and others to get some rest before the FedEx Cup playoffs get underway with the FedEx St. Jude Championship on August 18.

Even Rory McIlroy, who had a couple of extra days to get to Blaine after missing the cut at Troon, has opted to sit this one out.

Open runner-up Horschel leads 2023 3M Open field

However, a couple of the Open’s best performers, Billy Horschel (T2) and Thriston Lawrence (fourth), are teeing it up at Twin Cities, as are Tony Finau, Sahith Theegala, Akshay Bhatia and recently appointed Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley.

What is the prize purse at the 2024 3M Open?

One of the other reasons for the relative lack of superstars in the 3M Open is that it isn’t one of the more lucrative events on tour.

Excluding additional events, which are played in the same week as majors, there are only three ‘regular’ events on this year’s schedule which have a smaller prize purse.

There is $8.3 million to be shared out among the field at TPC Twin Cities, with the winner on Sunday taking home $1.494 million for his efforts over the four days.
