The PGA Tour heads to the Detroit Country Club this weekend for the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic. This will be the sixth edition of the tournament, and the 29th event of this year’s PGA Tour schedule. Defending champion Rickie Fowler features in a 156-player field that includes Cameron Young, Tom Kim, Will Zalatoris, Min Woo Lee and Akshay Bhatia. World No.1 Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy will both be sitting this one out.

Has Tom Kim’s time come at the Rocket Mortgage Classic?

The bookmakers have given Tom Kim odds of +1200 to win this year’s tournament. The Korean was desperately unlucky to not have won last week’s Travelers Championship, losing out to his great friend Scheffler. He can at least take some consolation in having leapt 22 places in the FedExCup standings, which massively boosts his chances of qualifying for August’s FedExCup Playoffs in Memphis.

The bookies have Cameron Young at +1600, Min Woo Lee at +2000 and Akshay Bhatia at +2200 while defending champ Fowler is a long shot at +5000 to clinch back-to-back titles.

Record purse for the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic

The Rocket Mortgage Classic purse increases for the sixth year running. Last year’s purse was set at $8.8 million and this year rises to a record $9.2 million, with 10 of the top 50 in the world ranking eyeing top prize. This year’s winner will take home a $1.65 million cash prize which will be split in a $1,329,400 share if two players are tied for first, $1,097,866.62 if three players are tied and $936,100 per player if four tie.

The individual prize for finishing second at the 72-par Country Club this year stands at $1,002,800 with $634,800 allocated for the player who finishes third.

The Rocket Mortgage Classic, held at a private country club in Grosse Pointe Farms, is one of the three ones left on the PGA Schedule before the start of the Open Championship in late July and its straightforward Par 72 usually translates into much lower scoring among golfers. Four of the five tournament’s winners recorded a score of -23 or better.

The event will run from Thursday, June 27, to Sunday, June 30 with a 6:45 a.m. start on the first two days and 7 a.m. starts on Saturday and Sunday.

You can follow the action on PGA Tour Live, while Peacock, FuboTV and the Golf Channel will be offering live streaming from 3-6 p.m. CBS will be providing live television coverage of Rounds 3 and 4 as well as a streaming service via CBSSports.com and the CBS Sports App.
