The US Open, the last major tournament of the 2025 tennis calendar, gets underway this weekend as Flushing Meadows hosts the 145th edition. Jannik Sinner will be defending the men’s title and hoping to win his fifth Grand Slam title. Meanwhile Aryna Sabalenka will be attempting to win back-to-back titles after defeating American Jessica Pegula to win the women’s singles event last year.

Alcaraz vs Sinner showdown at Flushing Meadows

Carlos Alcaraz and world No.1 Jannik Sinner start out as the big favorites while legend Novak Djokovic, 2021 winner Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, Andrey Rublev and Hubert Hurkacz are the other names to watch out for.

As for the women, world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka is the player to beat. She is just ahead of Iga Swiatek in the bookmakers’ odds, ahead of Gauff, Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula, Qinwen Zheng, Jasmine Paolini, two-time winner Naomi Osaka and 2021 champion Emma Raducanu.

The women’s singles final will be played on Saturday 6 September with the men’s final, the following day, Sunday, 7 September.

2025 US Open prize money and ranking points

Of all the major tournaments, the US Open offers the best financial rewards. This year, the total cash pot has increased by 20 percent on last year to $90 million. The singles champions will pocket a cash prize of $5 million plus 2000 ranking points while the finalists will receive $2.5 million plus 1,300 points.
