Ilia Topuria - Max Holloway summary: stats, highlights | UFC 308

Ilia Topuria, the Spanish Matador, took down Max Holloway in an superb fight to top UFC 308.

Ilia Topuria - Max Holloway summary: score and highlights | UFC 308

El Matador dances with Holloway

Ilia Topuria is the best in the world. At 16-0, the Spaniard was always in control of the fight. Holloway's proposals never seemed to pose a threat to him. The height difference was a significant factor at the start of the fight. Max was aware of this and attempted to keep the Georgian at a distance, but his legs began to weaken, particularly as Topuria continued to attack them.

El Matador knew that he was going to have a challenging time getting to Holloway in a clean way. The Spaniard's strength lies in his boxing style, so when facing a man who is significantly taller than him, a strategic approach is essential. The Spaniard went for the legs. Every time Holloway moved away, Topuria would launch incredible kicks to Max's legs, forcing him to shift to the center, a strategy that won him the first two rounds.

Holloway knew that he needed to make something happen, having lost the first two rounds. He moved closer, and as soon as he did, Topuria made him pay, two jabs to the face and then a takedown—and it was all over. You can't make this mistake with a guy like Ilia. Where can he go? We don't know; this guy could be the best in history.

Andy Restrepo

He is just that good

Topuria is a man of his word. He did what he said he was gonna do.

Andy Restrepo

Topuria wow !

Clean cut hit to jaw and sends Holloway to bed!! At 27 years it is incredible, where can this guy finish? Can he be the best of the world.

Andy Restrepo

TOPURIA KNOCKS HOLLOWAY DOWN!

WOW!! Topuria lands and incredible jab as soon as Holloway tried to get closer having lost the two first rounds. Topuria wow, at 5'7 and 140 pounds this guy is incredible.

Topuria vs Holloway

Holloway comes out with a couple of jabs. He needs to land something here or he will lose this fight. He is getting closer and Topuria makes him pay!! Hits right on the jab and takes Holloway down !!!

Topuria vs Holloway

The fight continues on with the same style. Holloway is doing his boxing moves and keeps Topuria away from striking zone. He is really using his size.

Topuria with a nice combination of right and left. He is starting to connect. Holloway might be getting tired here and letting his guard down.

Topuria connect and Max feels it!! Almost went down.

Holloway seems tired already. Topuria continues with the kicks on Holloway making him suffer by keeping away. Holloway doesn't seem to have a plan to knock Topuria out.

The second round is over and another Topuria round.

Topuria vs Holloway

Here we go!! Holloway makes fun of Topuria for his height. But here e go guys. Ilia starts with the pressure. Couple of jabs by the Spaniard.

The fight takes a boxing style one that's Topuria strength.

O wow!! Topuria takes Holloway down like if it was nothing!!! Talk about size

Holloway gets away from the take down and now we have a boxing match again. Topuria can't get to Holloway so he goes for the legs with the kicks.

The size difference is a big problem for Topuria he can't seem to get Holloway clean. Holloway sees it and keeps the distance.

The round is over and for me Topuria takes this one.

Andy Restrepo

Topuria vs Holloway

The fight is about to start guys, don't go anywhere. El Clasico is done, Barcleona 0-2 is winning, so stay here with us as we see the best fight of the year. Holloway is already at the octagon while Topuria is making his way out.

Andy Restrepo

The belt?

Should he get a shot at the belt? What do you guys think?

Andy Restrepo

That's crazy on the first round!

By submission on the first round!! That's all that it took.

Andy Restrepo

Chimaev!!!!! By submission !!!

That's all she sang !!! How good is this guy!! Still undefeated! He takes Whittaker down and didn't give up until he had the Australian asking for the stop.

Andy Restrepo

Whittaker vs Chimaev

Here we go!!! And Chimaev gets on top of him!! We started nice!! Whittaker is getting choked here and he can't get out.

Chmaev continues on top and is not giving up and Whittaker might submit.

There's been a couple of moments where Chimaev was close enough to that choke AND HE GOT IT!!!

Andy Restrepo

Whittaker vs Chimaev

Here we go guys!

Andy Restrepo

Look who is getting ready

Just a few more minutes to go! But first we have Whittaker vs Chmaev which promises to be better than the last two.

Ankalaev vs Rakic

Ankalaev comes out swinging and lands two got punches to the face of Rakic.

Nice kick by the Russian and he keeps on trying while the Austrian keeps on dancing and running away. 3 minutes to go still.

Ankalaev tries to grab Rakic and he knows that if he keeps this up he has a good chance at winning by going to the card. Not the prettiest of wins but it counts.

That's all guys. For this commentator the Russian wont this fight. Let's see what the cards say.

And yup Ankalaev takes this one. It was clear. Rakic never wanted to fight.

Ankalaev vs Rakic

The second starts at the first ended with the Russian trying to make things happen but the Austrian not wanting to budge. Rakic's plan is to defend as much and see if he can land one good punch.

The end is near and we can't wait for it. The round couldn't end fast enough. A very tactical fight nonetheless.

Andy Restrepo

Ankalaev vs Rakic

The Russian comes out swinging! He is taking this fight to the Austrian. Not much yet as Ankalaev keep throwing jabs but not landing many.

Another bore it seems. Rakic keeps running as Ankalaev keep throwing punches. Not much going on as both fighters seem to be waiting for something. Not sure what!

The round ends and nothing much for this one.

Andy Restrepo

Ankalaev vs Rakic

We hope this one is better than the last fight. Both fighters look ready for this and that they want to win this one fast!

Fight of the year

After watching that bore of Murphy vs Ige fight. I had to post this. It was an incredible fight. You had to be there!

Andy Restrepo

Murphy takes this one!

Yeah the Brit seem the right winner, Not by much but he did enough. The one who tried was Ige, but it was Murphy who was more effective tonight.

Andy Restrepo
RD 3

Murphy vs Ige

Nice kick by Murphy to the face but Ige takes it well and keeps still. Now Ige tries the grab and we have some floor game.

Both fighters look exhausted. Ige tries to land some elbows while on top of Murphy, but no luck and we continue with both  fighters tying to grab each other.

One minute to go and Murphy making an effort here to take. He has the choke on Ige but he escapes !!!

All over, and Murphy might take this one but is not sure who has won this one.

Andy Restrepo
RD 2

Murphy vs Ige

The fight continues and Ige is the one that tries to get things going. But Murphy with his height keeps things at bay making the fight a bit of a bored.

Ige tries to grab Murphy and the fight is on a still. Compared to the other fights of the night this one is failing us.

Murphy gets on top of Ige tries the grapple. And the round is over! Not much going on. Here we go for the third.

Andy Restrepo
RD 1

Murphy vs Ige

Murphy on the defense here, Ige comes out swinging, but his reach is not great. Wild kick by Murphy.

Bit of a calmed fight. Not much going on here Ige is trying to reach but his height difference is making thins hard.

The round is over and not much to tell you guys. My job is to inform but can't make things up. The fight is pretty meh at the point. Murphy should go for it.

Andy Restrepo

Murphy vs Ige

Magomedov vs Petrosyan

Both fighter come out a bit more reserve on this second round. Petrosyan hits Magomedov right on the bullets. The ref calls time and we are back in action.

Petrosyan tries to grab Magomedov but the grap fails and a nice kick to break from there.

Petrosyan has hit 8 more strikes than Magomedov. And now it is Petrosyan who gets his bullets played with.

Nice right to the face of Magomedov. The Armenian is trying to make something towards the end of this second round.

Andy Restrepo

Magomedov vs Petrosyan

Magomodev stars tough and goes for Petrosyan. This is a kickboxing fight. Both fighters are looking for those leg kicks.

Two minutes to go. Petrosyan right kick to the ribs of Magomedov. Thats gotta hurt.

In the second round, he unleashed a flurry of punches that overwhelmed Barnett, forcing the referee to step in and stop the fight. It seems the Spaniard injured himself just right before the fight.

Did Carlos Leal win?

There is serious accusations that Leal won the fight. The "X" world is going crazy with the judges decision. If you ask me, Leal is the clear winner on my book. But it is not like it was so clear.

Dana White is bad, bad man!

The UFC main guy has a cruel sense of humor. Poor Topuria has been cutting his weight for this fight and even a drop of water can affect his goal.
