Is Canelo Álvarez starting to lose his appeal? His recent snubbing of David Benavidez seems to to have cost the Mexican boxer with his recent fight showing a significant drop-off in PPV sales.

According to DAZN’s, Álvarez generated a total of 520,000 PPV purchases for his Vegas fight last Saturday, (4 May) against compatriot Jaime Munguía, a considerable decrease when compared to the previous fight against Jermall Charlo, where the Las Vegas fight generated 650,000 PPV sales.

The PPV sales record is held by Floyd Mayweather with his fight against Filipino Manny Pacquiao driving 4.6 million sales in 2015 with four fights involving ‘Money’ in the all-time Top 5.

Jake Paul and Mike Tyson will hope to create significant business with their highly anticipated bout in July with the YouTuber becoming big business since he made the move to the professional boxing circuit.

Ryan García, the new star of PPV?

25-year-old Ryan García has proclaimed himself as the new king of pay-per-view in boxing with various outlets claiming that his recent fight against Devin Haney achieved a total of 1.5 million PPV purchases, which managed to secure a place in the all-time Top 10.

“I feel like in my heart I am the face of boxing. I say this because of my advantages and how I can make anything have a greater reach. People don’t even just talk about my boxing, they talk about my life. If I walk wrong and they record me, I’m going to go viral for some reason. So I think I’m that guy now,” the California born boxer claimed recently on DAZN.
