This year’s Scottish Open will see 14 of the world’s top 15 golfers in action. Others have been banned from playing the Genesis Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club in East Lothian, Scotland, including Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter, Patrick Reed and Lee Westwood.

Last month, DP World Tour chief executive Keith Pelley banned golfers who competed in the LIV Golf Series from three tournaments, including the Scottish Open, which is being co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour for the first time as part of a “strategic alliance” between the two circuits.

“Every action anyone takes in life comes with a consequence and it is no different in professional sport, especially if a person chooses to break the rules,” Pelley said. “That is what has occurred here with several of our members.”

Top players involved

World number 1 Scottie Scheffler will be making his second appearance in Scotland. “I enjoyed the week at the Scottish Open last year and I’m looking forward to getting back to the Renaissance Club in July for the start of an exciting two weeks in Scotland,” he said.

Jon Rahm will make his second appearance at Scotland’s national open after last season’s top ten. A two-time winner of the Irish Open and DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, Rahm also won his own country’s open twice before winning his first Major at last season’s US Open Championship. “I’m looking forward to coming back to Renaissance Club for the Genesis Scottish Open this summer and the start of an exciting two weeks in Scotland,” he said. “I know this is an event with a long history and it’s great to see it become part of both the PGA TOUR and DP World Tour this season.”

World number 4 and 5, Collin Morikawa and Justin Thomas, will both be taking part in this summer’s Open. Other top players including Tommy Fleetwood, Max Homa, Joaquin Niemann, Rickie Fowler, Tyrrell Hatton and Justin Rose are in the field.

US Open champion

US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick will make a ninth consecutive appearance at the Genesis Scottish Open this summer. The Englishman became a Major winner for the first time at The Country Club, Brookline in June. “I would love to add to my Rolex Series victories at the Genesis Scottish Open, particularly after coming so close last year,” he said. “It’s a tournament that has been ever-present on my schedule throughout my professional career, and it’s exciting to see it co-sanctioned by both the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR this season.”

Course

The Renaissance Club is a par 70 that tips at 7,293 yards (yardage subject to change). Opened in 2007 in North Berwick, this year will mark the fourth edition of the Scottish Open to be contested at the Tom Doak design. The course is located between two iconic links layouts, North Berwick and historic Muirfield, which remains part of The Open rota. Each of the three previous editions of the Genesis Scottish Open contested at The Renaissance Club have gone into playoffs.

Non-major

The 2022 Genesis Scottish Open is set to be the strongest non-major DP World Tour history. This marks the first year that the Genesis Scottish Open is co-sanctioned between the PGA TOUR and DP World Tour.

The Scottish Open will take between place between 7-10 July.
