Jaime Munguía on Canelo bout: “we are going to put on a great performance”
The undefeated Tijuana fighter says that he has waited so long to get his moment in the spotlight that he will take full advantage of the moment on May 4
There is only one month left until Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez and Jaime Munguía get into the ring at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The all-Mexican bout is for all four Super Middleweight World titles: the WBC, WBO, IBF, and WBA. Jaime Munguía took time out of his busy camp to answer the boxing media’s questions by telephone.
“Things are very good. I am proud of the journey we have made. Now I am happy to compete for a world title, to be able to attract the attention of the media in Las Vegas is a dream come true, as is this fight between two Mexicans.”
Munguia, from Tijuana, Mexico, says he is highly motivated. “Now there are many things that can be said outside the ring. When we are up there, let’s see what happens. It should be a great fight, just what the people want. Let’s talk when we get into the ring. I think it implies many things, it is a great challenge. A great fighter like Canelo, the most recognized boxer in the world and I am happy for that. I feel happy for this great challenge and now it is time to show the world just who Jaime Munguía is.”
Munguía is working with legendary trainer Freddie Roach and is motivated by the fight against the popular Canelo, seen by many as the Mexican peoples’ champion. “I am better than I have ever been. I have grown a lot, I have gained experience, it is a good time to face him. Am I ready or not? Who can say? My best version is going to come on May 4. I feel very happy for the opportunity to be in the world spotlight. I think I am ready, and we are going to have a great fight.”
The bout between Munguía and Canelo will take place in Las Vegas on May 4. Jaime is undefeated in 43 fights. “The truth is, I think it is something that always happens in every fight. I trust in myself and my team. I feel better than ever, and we are going to put on a great performance on May 4.”
