Despite the knockout he suffered on Friday against Anthony Joshua, Jake Paul broke yet another record with more than 30 million viewers on Netflix.

Criticism and mockery of Jake Paul were swift after his painful knockout defeat to Anthony Joshua, dispelling any doubts about a fixed fight. The Briton was serious throughout and even broke the influencer’s jaw. “Unless I die, people will hate me,” Jake said on the YouTube show Impaulsive, alongside his brother Logan.

Many fans complain that influencers like Jake Paul have ruined boxing. The numbers, however, suggest the opposite. The 19 December event in Miami broke several Netflix records.

According to data provided by promoter MVP Promotions, the average minute audience (AMA) for the Joshua–Paul fight reached an estimated 33 million Live +1 viewers worldwide, making it one of the most watched fights ever in streaming terms.

The film featuring Paul and Joshua reached Netflix’s Top 10 in 91 countries and claimed the number one spot in 45 of them, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, and Argentina.

Even so, it fell just short of the fight between Canelo Álvarez and Terence Crawford, in which the American unified the super middleweight titles. That bout registered around 36.6 million viewers, according to Netflix figures.

The impact went beyond Netflix viewership. The fight also set a box office record for a live boxing event at the Kaseya Center, while the two fighters reportedly split at least $184 million, divided equally.

Social media erupted after Joshua’s sixth round knockout, generating more than 214 million impressions.

It’s not my biggest payday; it’s not about the money,” Joshua said after the fight. “For me, it was an opportunity. I had to show my skills to the world.”
