Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury bout officially called off but who will he fight next?
With an official decision taken, attention now turns who the American will fight in place of the Brit who failed to show.
With Jake Paul’s deadline having now gone, it would appear that the world won’t get to see the highly anticipated fight between the infamous YouTuber and the british reality TV star, Tommy Fury.
Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury bout officially off
According to his social media post from Jake Paul on Wednesday, the fight between Tommy Fury and himself is now officially off. Paul informed the public that for the second time, the fight had been called off and it was very apparent that he was not at all pleased about the fact. Paul also confirmed in his post, that Fury had in fact received a termination notice for their bout before going on to say that his opponent “literally went into hiding.” Interestingly, Paul also confirmed that he still intends to fight on August 6th at Madison Square Garden and later disclosed to ESPN, that he will in fact be fighting against Hasim Rahman Jr. - the son of the former heavyweight champion.
How did Jake Paul and Tommy Fury get here?
Fury who is the half-brother of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, had been scheduled to face Paul at the aformentioned August 6th event, but according to his own social media post, was denied entry into the U.S. by Homeland Security, due to what he initially called visa issues. It was later reported, however, that it was actually in connection to his ties to alleged mob boss Daniel Kinahan. At that point, Paul accused the Brit of who sits on an 8-0 record of attempting to “weasel” his way out of their scheduled bout. The YouTuber turned boxer has shown no signs of walking about on that narrative.
What did Tommy Fury say about the cancelation?
Fury has since released a statement of his own in which he lamented the situation that saw him barred from entering the United States. Interestingly, he also offered to fight Paul in either a neutral country or after his immigration situation is resolved.
“I’m gutted and disappointed in regards to the issues I have faced with entry into the USA. This is something that myself or my team could have never anticipated happening. This situation has been left with my lawyers as being denied entry to a country is obviously a very serious issue and it needs to subsequently be resolved. I am confident this fight will happen when this issue gets resolved and we come to a solution. I want to clarify that I will fight in a neutral country that both parties can enter. This can be any time, any place, any where.”
Jake Paul moves on to Hasim Rahman Jr.
As divisive as he may be, it should be said that Paul has so far given a good account of himself inside the ring. With a record of 5-0, he most recently defeated former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley in a rematch in December gone. Where the main criticism of his boxing comes is in connection with the fact that he’s yet to face any ‘real boxers.’ That, however is about to come to an end as he will in fact be facing an established boxer in the form of the aforementioned Hasim Rahman Jr.
