Jermell Charlo: “I can knock Canelo out”

The American is getting ready for the biggest fight of his career against the undisputed super middleweight champion.

With less than one month to go, Jermell Charlo and Saúl Álvarez are already heating things up ahead of their fight.

The American accepted Canelo’s challenge when his twin brother Jermall finally declined to fight the Mexican due to personal issues and has now transformed his body to face the Guadalajara native at 168 lbs., where Álvarez’s four belts will be on the line on September 30th.

Charlo, who was called out by Terence Crawford while he was fighting Errol Spence Jr., not only wants to defeat a living legend like Canelo in his weight class but also to make history by becoming the second boxer in history -after Bud- to be an undisputed champion in two divisions.

Jermell recently admitted that once he fights the Mexican, he wants to go down in weight again to face Crawford in another fight that would also be economically very interesting for him.

Jermell’s plans: a KO win over Canelo

Although most boxing pundits and trainers believe that Canelo will get the job due to the fact that he’s fighting in his natural weight and that Charlo will have to go up in two weight divisions, the Lafayette native thinks he can emerge victorious and in impressive fashion.

“I mean what I say, and I’m going to go prove it. If I got to go in there and do it the way I do it, I’m going to do it”, he said referring to a potential win over Canelo.

I was there when he fought a lot of fights. I was always going to the Canelo fights because they were fun to go to. So now I’m one of the guys that have to face him”, he added.

“I throw a lot of blinding shots. I throw a lot of different shots that are unique. It’s different from other people and very strong, and I’ve throwing those shots for years and practicing. I think he’ll get touched by them. I think I can knock him out, yeah. I think I have the power to knock him out”, he concluded.

While Jermell has very little to lose, the same can’t be said about Canelo. After having lost to Dmitry Bivol at 175 lbs. and not having impressed in his last performances, Eddy Reynoso’s pupil will need to get the win if he doesn’t want to see himself with no belts and probably having to earn his way back to the titles.
