John Cena on WWE return: I don’t know when I’ll fight again
Cena appeared at Raw on Monday to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his WWE debut. He intends to get back into the ring, but he doesn’t know when.
This Monday marked the 20th anniversary of John Cena’s debut on the WWE main roster. The organisation takes great care of these details, which is why it arranged for the fighter to appear at Raw. It was a memorable occasion for the Massachusetts native.
He received the affection of many colleagues, who gave him a guard of honour as he entered the ring, and major personalities congratulated him on video. It was striking that two men under contract with AEW, Chris Jericho and Big Show, also sent messages.
“I need to say thank you for making me who I am”
Afterwards, an emotional Cena addressed the crowd. He spoke of his gratitude for the support he has received, declaring: “This 20th anniversary is very important to me, because it means that you have allowed me do this for two decades.
“It’s never been lost on me that each and every single time I stand in this, it’s because you allow it. Guys, over the years you have created an environment for me to be my true self. I need to say thank you for moments like those, and I need to say thank you for making me who I am.”
“I don’t know when you’re going to see me in the ring again”
Cena continued: “It’s been 20 years and I’m 45 years old, I only state that because I don’t know when you’re going to see me in the ring again. I’m not saying you won’t, I just don’t know when that’s going to be. So I need to say this now – it ain’t just going to be one [more match], don’t worry about it!”
His career in Hollywood is now his priority, but a WrestleMania in Los Angeles next year is the ideal stage on which to park his movie-making for a moment and get into the ring. The future is unknown, but in the present Cena enjoyed the acclaim he deserved.
