John Ryder’s previous fights: best moments

‘The Gorilla’ will be looking to make history when he takes on Canelo Álvarez on Saturday in Mexico, the biggest challenge of his career.

Update:
‘The Gorilla’ will be looking to make history when he takes on Canelo Álvarez on Saturday in Mexico, the biggest challenge of his career.

The clock is ticking and British fighter John Ryder is making the final preparations ahead of the biggest fight of his career.

The Monster will try to pull off the upset against one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in Saúl Álvarez, who also holds the four super middleweight belts.

Only two men have defeated Canelo in 62 fights, so that proves how difficult is to get past the Mexican, who will also be supported by more than 45,000 fans at the Akron Stadium in his native Guadalajara.

Despite being a huge underdog against Álvarez, Ryder fancies his chances after his most recent performances, which had led him to the big stage in boxing.

Ryder’s best performances

The current WBO interim super-middleweight champion, who is looking to get back home with five new belts, has fought 37 times as a professional, winning 32 bouts -18 by KO- and losing five.

Ryder has had a solid career so far, but he came up short when he faced top contenders like Billy Joe Saunders or Callum Smith, something he has been working on over the last years.

The southpaw from Islington is now living his best moment as a boxer, as he has managed to live up to the expectations when most needed in his last fights.

The most remarkable wins of his career have taken place in his two last fights. The one that probably put him on the international map again was against former world champion Daniel Jacobs.

Although the American’s best days are probably behind him, he was considered the favorite by many, but Ryder got the nod via a split decision.

After that, he faced the undefeated fellow countryman Zach Parker, who registered his first loss after being forced to retire due to a hand injury. Before that happened, Ryder was dictating the tempo with his jab and some power punches.

Ryder’s best version was probably seen in those two fights given the level of his opponents, but before that he had already shown that his recent loss to Smith wouldn’t affect him, going into the ring against Jozef Jurko and Mike Guy. He defeated them via KO and decision, respectively.
