Jon Rahm’s wish: what did the golfer say to Carlos Alcaraz?

The Basque player gave a funny answer when he was asked about a possible Sunday with him playing at LIV Valderrama, Alcaraz fighting for the Wimbledon title and Spain featuring in the Euro final.

The Basque player gave a funny answer when he was asked about a possible Sunday with him playing at LIV Valderrama, Alcaraz fighting for the Wimbledon title and Spain featuring in the Euro final.

Jon Rahm will be looking to record a LIV Golf victory at Valderrama and win his first title this year. The Spaniard, who has won at least once every year since 2017, hasn’t been lucky in 2024, but he will try to change his luck at Real Club Valderrama, in Cadiz, Spain.

The former world No. 1 had to pull out of the US Open due to injury and things didn’t go his way in The Masters and PGA Championship.

Asked about the reason for his winless season, Rahm didn’t bite his tongue:

“It’s not easy to win golf tournaments, I’ve been close. I just haven’t gotten it done”.

Rahm, the ‘Spanish weekend’ and a message to Alcaraz

Rahm also said that Spanish sports fans may not know “what to do” on Sunday, with a possible Wimbledon final featuring Carlos Alcaraz, the LIV Valderrama, and Spain playing in the Euro final. He asked the Murcian tennis player -if he reaches the final- to “win in five sets” so that he has “time to see it.”

Rahm also explained during the pre-tournament presser he would “like to be able to see Alcaraz if he plays in the final” – he plays this Friday against Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals – and joked that if he didn’t play in the LIV Valderrama he would have issues trying to decide what to watch, as he would have to choose between Wimbledon or the golf tournament, which will be held from Friday to Sunday.

“If Alcaraz is in the running, with Spain in the final, and if I get to Sunday with a chance in the LIV, we might have (sport) everywhere and on all channels. I don’t know what you’re going to do, because if I was at home watching TV. Spain plays later and there’s no problem, but between tennis and golf I’d be a bit confused about what to watch,” Rahm said and admitted that if he won the Andalucia event it would be “difficult” to get to see the tennis match.

Beyond joking about it, Rahm also revealed he’s happy to be able to return to Spain. He also said that even if it doesn’t depend on him -but on when his daughter will be born-, his “plan” is to play in Spain three times a year “for the first time” in his life, at LIV Andalucía, the Spanish Open in Madrid from September 26 to 29 and the Andalusia Masters in San Roque from October 17 to 20.
