Kelly Slater and other surfing legends try out Hawaii’s artificial waves

Hawaii’s Wai Kai Lineup pool in Oahu was tested out by several surfing legends, including Kelly Slater, Ross Williams, and Nathan Fletcher.

There were several surfing legends together at once to try out the new artificial waves at Hawaii’s Wai Kai Lineup pool in Oahu. Among them was 11 time World Champion Kelly Slater, who made waves (hehe) with his debut of the Surf Ranch in Leemore, California back in 2015, which set off a slew of artificial wave technology.

Wai Kai Lineup pool

The artificial waves in the Wai Kai Lineup pool are a bit different than the typical ones, which imitate real ocean waves. Rather, this one is more of a standing wave. According to their website, the wave is 100 feet wide with waves two feet high.

The 100-foot-wide wave can operate with retractable pool dividers to create 1, 2 or 3 channels of surf action to run contests, create a variety of waves for varying skill levels and have over 30 people per hour surfing,” the website says.

Joining Slater to test out the new were other surfing legends Ross Williams and Nathan Fletcher. Check out the video to see them killing it on this new technology.
