Latest Conor McGregor post fuels further doubts of return to action
Rumors of a possible injury to ‘The Notorious’ have cast some doubt about UFC 303 with the Dubliner posting a photo from a clinic.
Last Monday, Conor McGregor canceled a UFC 303 press conference scheduled to take place at the 3Arena in Dublin in front of a packed house. This change of plans, added to the suspension of content related to UFC 303 on YouTube and ESPN led to a series of rumors about of the return of ‘The Notorious’.
McGregor, later went online to apologize to those affected from the no-show in his hometown but did not comment on a possible return to action in the octagon. Despite this institutional silence, several fighters such as Volkanovski and Kayla Harrison have offered to occupy the star billing of the forthcoming event, while several unofficial sources claim that the Dubliner is injured and a shadow of doubt hangs over the 35-year-old returning to fight.
However, on Wednesday night, the Irishman once again threw a swerve ball as he posted a picture from a medical clinic, which initially suggests that the MMA star was experiencing physical issues but the Instagram post was accompanied with an emoticon of a flexed arm, as a sign of strength.
Optimism after a few difficult days
Initial negativity surrounding a McGregor return is now changing and UFC fans are starting to believe that a return will finally happen after 4 years of absence. UFC has resumed promoting the fight and that coupled with declarations from MMA expert Ariel Helwani in which he pointed out that there is “great positivity” within the company suggest that the bout against Mike Chandler at the end of the month will finally go ahead.
McGregor’s opponent Michael Chandler remains stoic in the face of the uncertainty and has shown to be disciplined and focused in his preparation work ahead of UFC 303 which will be staged in Las Vegas (Nevada) on 29 June.
