Wood (26-2, 16 KOs) will defend his WBA featherweight title for the first time against Lara (25-2-1, 18 KOs) in his home country. The 34-year-old got his title after he defeated Xu Can in 12 rounds in July 2021. He is coming from a dominating victory over Michael Conlan, with the fight considered to be the Knockout of the Year in 2022.
Lara, meanwhile, made a name for himself by defeating another British boxer, Josh Warrington, in February 2021. The Mexican, who is ten years younger than the champion, is ranked as the best active featherweight in the world by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board. He is also considered to pack the most powerful punch in the division.
