Update:
The American wants to advance to the semifinals in Madrid after reaching the last round in Munich and will now take on a clay-court specialist.

He loved playing at altitude in Munich and he’s enjoying in the Spanish capital too. Taylor Fritz is better known for his performances on hard, faster courts, but the American likes his chances at the Mutua Madrid Open.

The 26-year-old talent wants to prove he’s in great shape and take advantage of the altitude in Madrid, as it suits better the players who prefer a faster pace in the game and Fritz is one of them.

After losing in the opening game in Monte Carlo, the American No. 1 player has won six of the last seven matches he has played. The current Delray Beach champion got to the Munich final some days ago, but the local Jan-Lennard Struff, who also loves these court conditions, defeated him in straight sets.

Fritz vs Cerundolo: the American looking for revenge

Fritz is looking to lift the eighth ATP title of his career in Madrid. He beat rock-solid players like Hubert Hurkacz, Sebastian Baez, and Luciano Darderi to get to this stage of the competition, and he will now take on another clay-court specialist, Francisco Cerundolo.

It will be a special match for both men, as they went head-to-head in an intense battle at the French Open round of 32 last year. Cerundolo lost the opening set but he recovered brilliantly to win the following three and get the victory.

The Buenos Aires-bred player has also had to deal with some difficult games to be in the quarterfinals. In his first match in Madrid, he beat the dangerous Fabian Maroszan and got the better of Tommy Paul and Alexander Zverev.

When is the Fritz vs Cerundolo game taking place?

Fritz and Cerundolo will feature in the second game of the day in the men’s category. The match is taking place today, Wednesday, May 1, at 3.30 p.m. ET / 12.30 p.m. PT.

The oddsmakers see Fritz as a moderate favorite to emerge victorious, although Cerundolo enjoys playing on clay courts and has the potential to record another win over the Californian star.
