Manny Pacquiao wants to win the gold medal at the 2024 Olympics

The former eight-division world champion hasn’t done it all in boxing. Not just yet. Manny Pacquiao wants to make history once again before hanging up the gloves and he’s looking at the 2024 Olympic Games, which will take place in Paris.

The Pac-Man, considered one of the best boxers of all time with a career full of unforgettable fights, still wants more and his goal is to win the gold medal in the international event.

The Philippine Olympic Committee president, Abraham Tolentino, stated that the first place in the Olympic podium is Pacquiao’s ultimate objective.

Pacquiao, who will turn 45 in December, could compete in the French capital after a rule change in 2016 allowed pro boxers to compete in boxing at the Olympics.

His last professional fight took place two years ago when he met Yordenis Ugás in the ring. He was supposed to face Errol Spence Jr., but the American suffered an eye injury and was replaced by the Cuban. Ugás defeated Pacquiao via unanimous decision at T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas.

Pacquiao’s dream at the 2024 Olympics

If Manny finally decides to compete in Paris next summer, he could qualify via one of the two Olympic qualifying tournaments that will be held next year.

It will be interesting to see how Pacquiao performs against fighters who are starting their careers and if he can deal with the age difference.

If Pacquiao managed to get to the Olympics and accomplish his mission, he would join other greats who won the gold medal in the event, such as Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, or ‘Sugar’ Ray Leonard.

It’s very possible that Pacquiao’s mission in the Olympic boxing tournament would have a great impact not only in the Philippines but in other countries too, as he has become a worldwide icon.

For the time being, the Filipino politician is expected to feature in an exhibition boxing match against Muay Thai legend Buakaw Banchamek on January 24.
