The American boxer Marlen Esparza retained her flyweight titles from the World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Council (WBC) and The Ring after defeating Venezuelan Eva Guzmán by unanimous decision at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

Following the ten rounds agreed by Golden Boy Promotions, the judges’ cards were 98-92, 98-92 and 99-91.

With the victory, the Houston native reached 13 wins in her professional career of 14 fights. Only one of her wins has been on the fast track and her only loss was in 2019 against Seniesa Estrada.

The fight between Esparza and Guzmán was part of the fight card in which Vergil Ortiz Jr. maintained possession of the WBO welterweight belt by defeating Michael McKinson by technical knockout after nine rounds.

Unified championship

At the end of the fight against Guzmán, the bronze medalist in the 2012 Olympics declared that she wants to win all the flyweight belts:

WBO, IBF, in that order. I will be ready for the fight”, declared the 33-year-old boxer when asked what the next step in her career was.

The belts that Esparza yearns for are in the possession of Argentine boxers; the WBO belt belongs to Gabriela Celeste Alaniz (13-0) and the IBF belt to Leonela Paola Yudica (17-0-3). ).
