Matchroom and Queensberry to repeat 5v5 format in May

After the blinding success of the 5v5 event last year, Britain’s two biggest fight promoters have announced that they are running it back in 2025.

In the high-stakes world of boxing, where every punch tells a story and every bout shapes legacies, the rivalry between Matchroom and Queensberry Promotions stands out. Their inaugural 5v5 event in June 2024 was a spectacle, with Frank Warren’s Queensberry stable achieving a clean sweep over Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom fighters, pocketing a $2.8 million prize. Now, as May approaches, anticipation builds for the rematch, promising another night of electrifying matchups.

It is worth noting that none of these are set in stone and negotiations are ongoing, but these are the most compelling matchups that most boxing fans would be expecting to see.

Main Event: Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua

The centerpiece of this event is expected to be the long-awaited clash between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. Both fighters have faced recent challenges - Fury’s loss to Oleksandr Usyk and Joshua’s knockout by Daniel Dubois. Despite these setbacks, the allure of this all-British heavyweight showdown remains undiminished. Joshua has expressed his determination: “I can’t stop now. I have to keep going until I reach my destination.”

Supporting Bouts

The undercard will likely feature a series of compelling matchups:

  • Sam Noakes vs. Joe Cordina: Noakes, riding a wave of four victories in 2024, faces former world champion Cordina, who is eager to rebound from his loss to Anthony Cacace. This bout promises a blend of aggression and technical skill.
  • Fabio Wardley vs. Justis Huni: Wardley, known for his knockout power, takes on Huni, whose footwork and ring generalship present a contrasting challenge. This fight is a showcase of emerging heavyweight talent.
  • Denzel Bentley vs. Kieron Conway: Bentley, a three-time British champion, squares off against Conway, the mandatory challenger for the Lonsdale Belt. This middleweight bout is set to be a domestic thriller.
  • Sam Gilley vs. Ishmael Davis: Both fighters, known for their fan-friendly styles, are poised to deliver an explosive encounter, potentially vying for the vacant British super welterweight title.

As the boxing world turns its eyes to this event, the stakes are clear. For Matchroom, it’s a chance at redemption; for Queensberry, an opportunity to solidify their dominance. Beyond the financial rewards, pride and legacy are on the line. Fans can expect a night where every jab, hook, and uppercut carries the weight of rivalry and ambition.
