When Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather comes to town, the purse is always a somehwat heavier than usual and that’s why we’re taking a look at the prize money for his latest exhibition bout.

Floyd Mayweather returns for bout with Mikuru Asakura

In what will be his fourth exhibition fight since his official retirement in 2017, Floyd Mayweather is set to step back into the ring on September 25th, 2022. In the other corner will be Japanese sensation, Mikuru Asakura. Taking place in the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, the fight will begin at 12:00 a.m. ET. While there has been no official word on the rules for the fight, we do know what kind of purse we’re looking at and as always when it comes to Mayweather, there’s a lot of money on the table.

What’s the purse for Mayweather vs Asakura and how is it split?

Though the figures that have been mentioned are all tentative and quite likely will change depending on the fight’s pay-per-view sales, Floyd Mayweather is expected to take home somewhere between $20 million and $30 million when the fight comes to an end. Interestingly, Mayweather has already been making money on the fight without even throwing a punch. The 50-0 boxer boasted about the fact that he was paid $1.5 million just to appear at a press conference to promote the fight.

Ultimately, from what we can understand, Mayweather will receive a $22M base salary for the fight. With PPV tickets now available for $29.99. and his share of them standing at 85%, there will be a further $4.5 million added to his salary. Where Mikuru Asakura is concerned, he will earn considerably less than his iconic opponent, however, it won’t be peanuts. With 15% of the PPV income coming in at approximately $750K and an unknown base salary, Asakura is expected to make in the realm of $1.2 million for the fight. Not a bad payday for an exhibition fight.
