United States Senator Richard Blumenthal has initiated an investigation into the surprising merger between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, facilitated by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF).

In official letters addressed to LIV Golf Commissioner Greg Norman and PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan, Senator Blumenthal, who serves as the chair of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, announced a thorough examination of the proposed agreement between the PIF and the PGA. He requested the submission of records pertaining to the merger as part of this investigation.

Expressing concerns about the involvement of the Saudi government in influencing this partnership, Senator Blumenthal emphasized the potential risks associated with a foreign government entity assuming control over a ‘cherished American institution.’

The letters sent to the commissioners included a deadline for submitting the requested documents by June 26, which conveniently coincides with the conclusion of the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands, one of the PGA Tour’s designated events hosted in Senator Blumenthal’s home state of Connecticut.
