Mike Tyson seen in a wheelchair at Miami Airport

Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson was seen in a wheelchair at Miami Airport, a month after he said that his ‘expiration date’ was coming soon.

Last month, boxing legend Mike Tyson spoke about his mortality on his podcast, saying that his “expiration date” was coming soon. Tyson knows that age is taking its toll on his body, and proof of this is that on Tuesday he was seen at Miami Airport in a wheelchair holding a cane.

According to a report by the New York Post, the former heavyweight champion is suffering from a bout of sciatica, a medical condition related to the lower back. The scene at the airport comes weeks after reports that the former champion was seen in New York City, carefully walking with a cane.

The 56-year-old former boxer did not hide from fans who took the opportunity to take some pictures next to the legend, who was courteous to them.

“It's just an occupational hazard for an athlete like Mike”, assured a source close to the former athlete in a chat with TMZ.

A problem that has plagued Mike Tyson for years

Although he appeared in a wheelchair, Tyson said about three weeks ago that his health was good and that he only used the cane as a precaution.

Two years ago, Tyson suffered a similar episode with sciatica. During that time, the former boxer had to be bedridden for a few weeks.

Iron Mike has been boxing for more than 40 years. Tyson won the gold at the 1981 and 1982 Junior Olympic Games as an amateur, then became the youngest boxer in history to win a world heavyweight title when he won the World Boxing Council belt in 1986 at just 20 years, four months and 22 days.

His most recent bout, an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr., took place on Nov. 28, 2020. There have been reports that he may go head-to-head with YouTuber Jake Paul in another exhibition matchup.
