Munguía clears name: when will boxer return to the ring?
It was found that his positive doping test was due to contamination from some of the elements he used in his preparation.

Jaime Munguía was caught up in controversy earlier this year over an alleged doping case that saw him suspended from the ring. From that moment, he began a long process to prove his innocence, arguing that the positive result came from contaminated food.
He was not alone in that fight. Fernando Beltrán, CEO of Zanfer and Munguía’s promoter, invested heavily in testing at some of the best laboratories in the world.
Munguía proves his innocence
“We made a significant investment to go to the top labs in the world. We did hair and nail tests, and sent the samples to France to show that he was not on any cycle – that it was contamination in some supplement. We sent every sample of every supplement and cream he used during training, because his testosterone was elevated. One contaminated product was found, four in total. Fortunately, they were detected in time and that’s why we’re here today with the WBC,” Beltrán said at the World Boxing Council’s weekly ‘Martes de Café’ event.
At the same event in Mexico City, Munguía expressed relief that his name had been cleared, again pointing to contaminated food as the cause.
“I just want to say that I’m happy my innocence was proven. I’ve always been clean, always a clean athlete, and I believe we should be on equal terms inside the ring. It was very painful that people thought I used something illegal to enhance my performance. The supplements that tested contaminated were not illegal substances and did not boost my physical ability. I’m happy to move forward, to keep fighting, and to become WBC champion,” Munguía said.
When will Munguía make a return?
As for his comeback, there is no confirmed date yet. Journalist Salvador Rodríguez reported that the boxer from Tijuana could return in October or November.
“The star from Tijuana @jaimemunguia15 has the green light to get back in the ring and could do so in November or December. Sources tell me the BBBofC and UKAD will not sanction him,” Rodríguez posted.
