Munguia vs Ryder purse money: How much will they make and how will they split it?

There will be way more than bragging rights on the line when Jaime Munguia and John Ryder go toe to toe in Phoenix, there will also be a significant purse.

There will be way more than bragging rights on the line when Jaime Munguia and John Ryder go toe to toe in Phoenix, there will also be a significant purse.

This Saturday, January 27th at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona, there will be a very intriguing clash between the rising star of Mexico and one of the more solid British fighters that we’ve seen in some time. The question is how much do these men stand to earn when the final bell goes?

Jaime Munguia vs John Ryder: What to know

As they enter this fight, it’s got to be said that both men were very impressive the last time they stepped in the ring though with admittedly different results. Where John Ryder is concerned, the Brit is on a record of 32-6 with 18 KOs, following a loss to Mexican icon Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in Guadalajara. What’s interesting to note is that although the 35-year-old was floored in round five before finally losing by unanimous decision, it was clear that the Mexican public had taken a liking to him after a brave and daring performance. Indeed, we have to imagine that the way in which he endeared himself to fight fans down south likely played a role in his being chosen as the man that Jaime Munguia will face.

Speaking of Munguia, at 42-0 with 33 KOs, it’s clear that the Mexican knows his way around the canvas. Ironically, there were doubts about his ability to cut it just last year. Fortunately, the 27-year-old was able to overcome his Ukrainian opponent, Sergiy Derevyanchenko, in a bout that many are calling Fight of the Year contender. Of course, that’s now in the past, and with that, Munguia will undoubtedly be aiming to secure a potential opportunity against Canelo Alvarez, something that he’s made clear he wants.

What’s the purse at stake for Jaime Munguia and John Ryder?

The first thing that must be understood is that this bout will not be Pay-Per-View, with DAZN holding exclusive broadcast rights. To that end, even though there is indeed a world title on the line the fight is not set to generate millions. As for what reports have stated, Munguia is in line to receive a guaranteed minimum of $800,000, while Ryder is looking at $400,000. Be that as it may, it’s clear that the financial implications for both men going forward are not small. Should Munguia emerge victorious, he will not only preserve his undefeated record but almost certainly solidify his claim to more high-profile fights. If, however, it’s Ryder who comes out on top there will be no denying his place amongst boxing’s elites, something that will surely lead to more paydays as well.
