Official: Canelo Álvarez to fight Gennady Golovkin in September
The Mexican star will return to 168 pounds where he’s the undisputed champion to fight GGG on Sept. 17, with the venue to be announced at a later time.

It seems that the world will have to wait to see the rematch between Saúl Canelo Álvarez and Dmitry Bivol. The Mexican superstar suffered his second career loss after Bivol was given the win via unanimous decision earlier this month.

The 31-year-old is not used to losing. He is eager to return to the ring and regain his status as the pound-for-pound king in boxing. Álvarez will fight again on Sept. 17, and it will be against Gennady Golovkin, not Bivol, with the venue to be announced at a later time.

The reason for this decision is because the trilogy was scheduled to happen this year, but the defeat against Bivol made Canelo reconsider his next fight. In February, the 31-year-old signed a multi-fight deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing which included the trilogy against GGG.
Álvarez will return to 168 pounds, where he feels more comfortable and is the undisputed champion, and he will put all four super middleweight belts on the line against Gennady Golovkin. This has been one of the most anticipated fights in boxing since Canelo defeated GGG via majority decision in 2018.
