Ortiz Jr. vs Lawson full undercard: complete list of fights before the main event
The undefeated American will make his return to the ring to face Lawson at super welterweight.
One of the most relentless and aggressive fighters in boxing, Vergil Ortiz Jr., will make his comeback after one and a half years of inactivity due to health issues.
He will take on Fredrick Lawson, a 34-year-old Ghanaian fighter who hasn’t had convincing performances in his last three fights but who will be looking to pull off an upset at The Theater at Virgin Hotels, in Las Vegas, on Saturday night.
Ortiz Jr. (19-0, 19 KOs), a Golden Gloves silver medalist in 2016, will be making his debut at super welterweight after withdrawing on two occasions when he was scheduled to fight Eimantas Stanionis due to his rhabdomyolysis problems.
The 25-year-old is one of the biggest young stars in boxing and will hope to have a successful return to the ring by adding another knockout to his record.
Ortiz vs Lawson: who else is fighting?
Ohara Davies and Ismael Barroso will collide for the interim WBA super lightweight title. The Brit is the favorite to come out on top, but the Venezuelan veteran is a dangerous opponent, as he proved against Rolly Romero.
The undefeated Arnold Barboza Jr. will take on Xolisani Ndongeni in a 10-round contest. The American (28-0), who turned pro in 2013, defeated Jose Pedraza via unanimous decision in his last fight. Ndongeni (31-3) will be looking to get back to winning ways after losing to Ernesto Mercado last July.
Raul Curiel and Elias Diaz will go at it in a welterweight bout. Curiel, a 2012 Youth World Championships silver medalist, will want to record another KO win after doing so against Courtney Pennington in September, while Diaz, with only one defeat on his record, will be looking to get his hand raised, as he last did last February.
